What is BOTOX®?
- BOTOX® (onabotulinum toxin A) is an injectable medication that may help with a variety of conditions including spasticity, cervical dystonia, migraine headaches, jaw pain, muscle pain, and excessive sweating.
- It is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines.
- It is also used for many other conditions including spasticity and excessive sweating.
How is an injection performed?
- Botox will be injected by your provider after you have an initial consultation to see if Botox might be the right treatment for you.
- Your provider may use various modalities including ultrasound or other guidance to help perform your treatment.
- Botox typically lasts for about 3 months and injections are performed up to four times a year

Post-Procedure:
- Most people can walk around immediately after.
- You should avoid strenuous activity that may cause sweating for 24 hours after your injection.
- You may resume full activity the next day.
- Mild bruising and soreness around the injection site may occur.
- Applying ice for a few days may reduce inflammation and pain
- It may take 4-6 days before you begin to notice a change from the injection. Peak results are typically seen at 4-6 weeks.
Risks:
- BOTOX® injections may cause temporary injection site pain or bruising.
- In some cases patients may experience dry mouth, weakness or short-lived flu-like symptoms.
- Be sure to talk to your provider about risk and side effects associated with BOTOX® treatment before your procedure.
- Please notify the provider if the injection site becomes infected (fever or drainage at the injection site) or inflamed (redness, swelling, pain at the site).
